Sysmex America Offers Preview of New Hematology Instrument at Clinical Lab Expo

Big things are happening in the Sysmex America booth at AACC this week. The company representatives I spoke with are excited to showcase new hematology instruments that they say will account for 80% of the company’s future product offerings.

The Sysmex XN-Series hematology analyzers, which are currently awaiting 510(k) clearance from FDA, enable laboratories of all sizes to implement advanced clinical parameters, including an all-new fluorescent platelet channel for immature platelet fraction (IPF) to aid in the differential diagnosis of thrombocytopenia (low blood-platelet count). The scalable, series-wide, compact design delivers a smaller footprint that the Sysmex reps say optimizes workflow and productivity. The instruments are built on the concept of Silent Design, a "fusion of product design and technology" developed with the users and their workplace in mind. "An analyzer should be unobtrusive," said Tammy Kutz, manager, media and events.

Additionally, smaller reagent sizes and concentrated reagents simplify consumable inventory management. Scalable options exist for auto-validation approaches---from onboard decision rules to Sysmex WAM middleware. The XN-Series is also supported by the Sysmex Peak Performance Program, a comprehensive set of systems and resources that work together to ensure the laboratory’s long-term success.

Kutz listed better modularity, good information management, adaptability to all lab sizes, reduced manual intervention, and increased first-time reportable results as a few of the XN Series' many advantages. The instrument represents "a new approach to workflow and efficiency" for hematology labs, she said.

More details, information, educational presentations, and opportunities to get up close and personal with the instruments are available at the Sysmex America booth, #1347.
